Death and Decay
Death & Decay (1).png

Black Wolf, Kansas. 1921. Bootlegger Jesse Jones witnesses the parting of the veil. What he glimpses on the other side is not of this world. Tarlike mycelium. Golden falls of lion's mane and honeyed sap. Years later, the world will call it First Discovery, but in the moment, Jesse Jones calls it wrong. It reeks of death, a bit of the devil laced amidst its spores. Rot befalls everything once known. The American midwest transforms into The Disturbed Lands. A new prohibition blooms, and Jones leads the way. Enter, ascomycota.

Seattle, Washington. 2021. Asco Dealer Brooklyn Lear runs his struggling business through the city’s damp underground, and on the centennial of First Discovery, ends up partnering with a man who could elevate his ambitions – Adrian Wolf, local businessman, philanthropist, and Asco Dealer to the city’s elite. Wolf’s fungi are the same as Lear’s, both dealer’s specimens originating from beyond the veil, plucked from the corpses of dead mediums foolish enough to breach the aether. Their spirigenic highs provide all manner of power beyond the normal grasp of mankind, but Wolf has two things Lear doesn’t – respectable connections, and one deadshot gunner by the name of Ruby Greene.

When Greene dies in a harvesting job gone south, Lear and Wolf are put at odds, unearthing a century-long secret. Both men soon find that not all dead things stay twelve feet under, not all broken hearts stop beating, and sometimes history isn’t history at all – it stands by your side, takes your hand, and leads you into the Disturbed Lands.
