Death and Decay
Black Wolf, Kansas. 1921. Bootlegger Jesse Jones finds himself caught in the wet and fervent blossom of First Contact, unknowingly baring witness to the greatest shift in human history. The opening of the veil. The aether’s fingers across the Midwest and the creation of the Disturbed Lands. Death and decay befall everything once known. Rot spreads. A new prohibition takes root.
Seattle, Washington. 2021. Asco Dealer Brooklyn Lear runs his empire through the city’s damp underground, and on the centennial of First Contact, ends up at odds with the only man who could rival all he’s built – Adrian fucking Wolf, local businessman, philanthropist, and Asco Dealer to Seattle's elite. Wolf’s fungi are the same as Lear’s, both dealer’s specimens originating from beyond the veil, plucked from the corpses of dead mediums foolish enough to breach the aether. Their spirigenic highs provide all manner of power beyond the normal grasp of mankind, but Wolf has two things Lear doesn’t – respectable connections, and one deadshot gunner by the name of Ruby Greene.
When Ruby dies in a harvesting job gone south, Brooklyn and Adrian are forced into a tentative partnership that unearths a century-long secret. Both men soon find that not all dead things stay twelve feet under, not all broken hearts stop beating, and sometimes history isn’t history at all – it stands by your side, takes your hand, and leads you into the Disturbed Lands.
